Building Freedom

There can be hope

In 2021, One by One heard the heartbreaking account of three-year-old Mercy, who had been raped and killed in a Pakistan brick factory. We also met another girl who had gone through a similar attack but who had miraculously survived. Stories like this are too common in Pakistan’s brick factories where children work 14 hours a day in brutal conditions.

One By One has been reaching into these factories for the last two years and with your help, we have so far rescued 85 children from slavery. But this is just the beginning. In 2022, we are launching the Building Freedom campaign as we step up our work in Pakistan.

Reach, Rescue and Restore

This year, we have three goals:

  1. REACH thousands of girls through the Dignity Project
  2. RESCUE more children from bonded labour
  3. Bring RESTORATION through our ongoing care programme

A few weeks ago I was in a brick kiln in Pakistan when I sat with a heartbroken mother whose three-year-old girl had been raped and killed.
